Question Replacement for Daly 50uf 50volt DC capacitors

Can someone please tell me (for hubby Terry) the best replacement for Daly 50uf 50volt DC capacitors? I/we have looked at the replacement non-electrolytic values page but they don't go up to 50uf. Our ones don't have electrolytic on them so thinking they are non-etc. Thank you. xx

Any vintage capacitor having a capacitance of more than about 1uF is almost certain to be an electrolytic capacitor. The nearest modern preferred value to 50uF is 47uF.

Don't forget to chose a capacitor with a voltage rating of 50 Volts or more with radial or axial leads as appropriate.

Here's a typical example:-

DC capacitors will be electrolytic and will be marked with the correct polarity. It is perhaps feasible that large foil capacitors are used in speaker cross over networks which run on AC. They will be large and cost the earth.

Hi allyson,
Maybe best to post a picture of the Daly capacitor and tell us where and what it is fitted in.
Like Trevor and Station X say it will be an electrolytic of some kind, so you have to take careful note of the polarity when replacing it.

The exception of course is if it is part of a speaker / cross over network, in which case you will need a 'bi-polar' electrolytic capacitor.

I have taken photos of the Daly "doings" but not sure how to post them-if they don't appear can someone let me know how to please. We went to an audio jumble and got quite a few bits we needed for various players so thank you for your previous help.

Definitely axial electrolytic capacitors. Previous comment apply.

Cricklewood electronics have a 47Uf 100V axial capacitor for 78 p plus p+p.

Search for 47A100.

Hope that helps.

Thank you for your help. It is from one of Terry's jukeboxes- a Bal-Ami made in 1959 in Ilford which we had to get (a good few years ago now as he did it up and now some of the amp capacitors need replacing or "fettling with") as it is one year out from when I was made and we both came from around Ilford. xx
