Hi Graham

That points to the mains switch being faulty. Please confirm that there's no voltage on its output.

If it is faulty bridge it out by soldering two short pieces of wire between the input and output terminals.

The mains output I tested was the labeled as 3&4 in your post #33 which I assume is right and there is nothing coming out

If the mains switch isn't accessible join tag 1 of the tag strip to tag 3 and tag 2 of the tag strip to tag 4.

Let's try again. I assume you have 250VAC on tags 1 and 2, but nothing on tags 3 and 4?

That being the case the mains switch is faulty and you'll need to bridge it as previously described.

I am assuming by tag strip you mean the bit where the mains wire plugs on to the power supply

It actually appears to be a plug and socket as shown in post #41. Assuming it has pins labelled 1 to 6, then that's it.

Right so I need to attach pin1 to pin3 and pin 2 to pin4. pin 1 being live and pin 2 being neutral

Yes. Use two short pieces of wire.

No. It'll just bypass the switch.

Just a thought but i once looked at one of these for a friend .It had a rather strange mechanism for switching on and off .when pressing one of the selector buttons the mains switch was pulled down by a cable when pressing the off button the cable was released and the switch was pulled back to the off position by a spring .it could be something as simple as that and worth a quick look before disturbing anything else

That sounds very likely.

The OP seems to be adverse to taking readings at the actual switch, preferring instead to do so at the 6 way plug and socket. This makes me think the switch may be difficult to identify or access.

At least temporarily bridging the switch will show whether it's the only fault.

Thanks
Stephen

No FM is a separate issue which was discussed in this thread:-

https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...d.php?t=152849

I suggest you try to find out why the OFF/ON switch isn't working. Post #52 may give a clue.

Hi Guys

It's been a while i know but i thought i update with what's going on. Firstly i have now fixed the FM issue which was indeed the ECC85, so this clearly has a lot to do with whether FM radio even works. Now to the other issue of the power supply. I have removed the chassis and as far as i can tell the off switch is working ok, so as to why it doesn't turn on/off with the buttons I'm still not to sure but i will keep investigating. I also am hoping someone could possibly tell me which tape deck is meant to go with this Mandello e/gb as i have tried looking this up but seem to get conflicting information about whether it is a reel to reel or a cassette type player so a model number would be most helpful

Take Care
Stephen

You can use either a Reel-to-Reel or a Cassette deck.
On your Mandello there should be a 5 pin DIN socket for the tape record and playback functions - using just one 5 pin DIN lead.
