Default Sanyo VTC 5300 power supply

My trusty VTC 5300 has ceased to function and is completely dead. I have checked the basics (supply fuse, lead etc) and 230 volts appears inside but as I don't have a circuit diagram I am concerned I might create more problems poking around blind. Is there anywhere I can get a circuit diagram and a layout of the PSU at least so I can investigate further. It may be a write off but it's worth investigating first.

Hi there. I had the same or similar problem with my VTC 5350 (missing 15V supply) and the culprit was the switching transistor Q4 (2SB536) on the PW-1 (DC power supply) board. I replaced it with a 2SB506 and the problem was solved. Also check the zener diodes for shorts and check if the two TL494CN ICs are good. I have the full schematic in case you need it.

Regards,

Fivos

Hi Fivos,

Is there a chance I could get the full PSU diagram ? I do not mind if it is in sections as I can piece it together.

Hi Chris. I just uploaded the manuals here:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1yTQ...ew?usp=sharing

You will find the power supply schematics on page 167-168 of the second pdf file (the one that includes the Fisher clones/rebadged models)

Completely ignore pages 136 through 152 and 169-170 as these include schematics for an entirely different machine (a VHS one) by mistake.

I hope this helps.

Fivos

Hi Fivos

I managed to download the file --- BIG ! I also manged to extract two of the 3 files OK but the one Sanyo VTC5300P - Fisher VBS7500 etc. will not extract. I get an error message saying there is an error in the zipfile and it can not be extracted. Any ideas ? Running Windows 10.

Hi Chris. It might be because I zipped the files using macOS. Try this link and let me know if it works:
https://dropmefiles.com/gcwIU

Hi again Chris. Just click on the download button at the dropmefiles link and you should receive the "Sanyo VTC 5300P/Fisher VBS-7500/7500S/9900/9900S" pdf file without the need to unzip anything.

Hi Fivos

Downloaded successfully. Thanks. Another "lockdown job" I can put on the queue.

No worries. Have a look at the schematics and see which voltages are missing. I think you may have lost the 15V standby (always-on) rail as you don't even have a working clock display. If the TL494CN IC has failed, you can find replacements from old ATX computer power supplies. They are very common chips in various switching power supplies.
