Desoldering Station
I have an Ungar/Weller 4624 desolder station without the desolder tool. I recently bought a Duratool desolder gun 80w to try and make it work on the Ungar. My experiments suggest the Ungar is too powerful for it. Does anyone know how I can make this work successfully. Ungar specify 2.5 -5ohm heater element, the Duratool is 1.3ohm approx. Any ideas or experience with these products would be much appreciated. allyblack.

Re: Desoldering Station
The Duratool is 24V heating element, which is temperature controlled by the base unit. It uses a PTC thermister for temperature feedback to the unit.
The weller is 24V also but you need to find out if it can use the Duratool thermister to accuratly measure temperature, then is should work.

Re: Desoldering Station
Thank you for the reply. All I can do is experiment with it and see what happens. What I have found is the patch leads I have rigged from the 6 pin socket to the Duratool element are melting when I switch on, a bit perplexing. I've checked most things and all seems OK.
Will reply again. Many thanks, allyblack. |
