Double / Twin Tape Deck
Hi, would anyone know if the following item would be still available new or used but preferably used. Its a double / twin tape deck, with the ability for both tapes to record from the mic at the same time, thanks.

Re: Double / Twin Tape Deck
Hi,
The only ones I can think of are those used by the police during interviews of suspect crims. They're made by Neal and feature in almost every crime drama on the telly. I know nothing about their features or sound quality. Cheers, Pete.

Re: Double / Twin Tape Deck
NEAL = North East Audio Limited and use the famous Wollensak tape drive mechanism. from somewhere in the depths of memory. They went into a rather specialised market.
I think the Japanese firms made dual cassette drive machines, but most of them had one drive specialised for recording, the other for replay. Somtimes only one had an erase head. David

Re: Double / Twin Tape Deck
The Neal deck for the Police is I believe still being made (try Canford who I believe now own Neal) but I suspect you'll be lucky to find one second-hand - they would be of limited frequency response. There were a couple of open-reel double tape decks made many years back primarily for tape to tape copying - I haven't seen one for years.
What exactly do you need this for? If to make two simultaneous recordings, could you not use 2 mics and two recorders? |

Re: Double / Twin Tape Deck
My Sony TC-WR735 is a mid 1990s hifi dual deck recoder which records on both wells. Note that they will need the belts changing by now though.
I also have a Neal industrial one that can record 4 phone conversations at once!
