Swap Grundig TK20 with TK55
Hi Everyone
I recently purchased a Grundig Magestic 9078 / USA. The reel-to-reel (looks like a version of the TK20) player doesn't work. Someone locally is selling a TK55. I was wondering if these can easily be swapped? If not I'll look into fixing what is there. But it would be nice since the TK20 is Mono and the TK55 is stereo. Thanks for the assist! John |

Re: Swap Grundig TK20 with TK55
Hello and welcome.
What do you mean by "easily swapped"? If you mean just unplugging the mono one and plugging in the stereo one in its place (connected to a HiFi?) then you'd need to make up some different leads. If you mean can the tapes from one by played on the other then yes, one way round but no, the other way round. Happy to help (including the repair) but a clearer vision of your aim would be useful. Graham

Hi
Thanks for the response. Yes that is what I meant. Thought that one can be unplugged and I could put the stereo one in it's place. Guess nothing is easy. LOL! |

Bear in mind also that the TK55 is stereo playback, mono record.

Hey Guys
Thanks for your responses. Was wondering if I could use this to convert the Stereo-to-Mono? https://www.edcorusa.com/s2m I found another person who had used a Edcor S2M stereo to mono coupler in his Grundig 8090. Looks like that might be a option? |

Re: Swap Grundig TK20 with TK55
That looks like a rather expensive solution to just simply combining the stereo lead (LH + RH channels) to provide a Mono-only signal.

Re: Swap Grundig TK20 with TK55
Hi everyone
I took the TM 20 (Looks like a TK20) in today to be repaired. Ended up that when I opened the unit the DIN connector was not connected. That's why it wouldn't power up. Plugged it in and it Powered up right away. The reels were turning but no sound. Anyways...good to get it looked at and tuned up. But...there was a wire that was broken off and sitting on the bottom of the unit the ran to the TM 20. It seems to have broken off a yellow connector which was in the same area as the turntables black and red wire connection on the AMP. Anyone have an idea what this wire might be for? Thanks |
