EL34 SE Similar to Pye Mozart.
Just thought,
I would post my EL34 SE just for fun its close (circuit) to the PYE Mozart. Finish is shellac (a moment of madness)..just for fun. Tubes are mounted on silicone washers. EMI shield below top plate. It was a fun build, however like all things had its moments.. I wish I had used a tube rectifier now.(After thought) Tubeglow. Last edited by Tubeglow; 28th Mar 2014 at 1:57 pm. |

Re: EL34 SE Similar to Pye Mozart.
Thanks for the kind comments.
I swap amps every few months just nice to hear different ones (they are on a rotation it also keeps the electrolytic capacitors good), there is something about this one that I can't bring myself to modify it. I was going to mod the bias to use KT66/6L6 as well as EL34..just can't bring myself to do it. So I'll probably build another one The venting is "Driven" by the warmth of the choke mounted under chassis. Tubeglow. Last edited by Tubeglow; 29th Mar 2014 at 6:11 pm. |

Re: EL34 SE Similar to Pye Mozart.
Sorry I forgot the back.
The Speaker posts are red copper and the input is rhodium because there is only one to reduce the wear. Resistors are Takman MF. Capacitors are S/Oil. Cable PTFE. Pot is TKD. Yes I know.. There is always more to tell but..It was one of those days. (I'll give it a try). I should add, Are the capacitors Audio Note (No)....I don't like them. There are a couple of Kiwame and mills resistors plus a couple of silmic2 capacitors. (why) good question. I would laugh but..Its what I wanted to do. So if you had chance to build it again you would do it differently, Yes I might change the colour. Rectifiers are Hexfred. Are there any screened cables? Only ones I have made with PTFE aluminium foil and heat shrink plus a drain wire. (The shield is only an extension of the chassis ground no signal) The EMI shield works well and is glued to the inside of the top plate then covered in aluminium foil. (This is under the transformers which have there own earth cables) You can do well with double sided PCB which is also used under the tube section. The front is made from a glass tile. Drilled with a 10mm glass drill, (fun) Then a copper plate mounted behind to hold the volume pot. Chassis work was a few hours with a Dremel. The nice thing about wood is there are so many types to choose from. The Choke is bypassed. The mains has PTC inrush suppression and MOV suppression across the mains transformer.(EMF). The mains is plaited from the IEC filter. (Don't ask) TransZorb suppression. Tubeglow. |

A very nice piece of work Looks good and probably sounds as good as it looks. I have set of transformers and PCBs for an Elektor EL34 PP amp that I'm going to build some time, on a Copper Chassis plate in a Mahogany case. Hope it looks as good as yours!
