Default Roberts R707 handle

Hi folks. I’ve been repairing and cleaning a Roberts R707 for an elderly relation.
The repair was just to clean the earphone socket – it had gone intermittently O/C and cut off the internal loudspeaker. I might just short out the socket to prevent a future reoccurrence. The case has cleaned up nicely and the wood responded well to some linseed oil.
Some advice please. The handle is in good condition, but it is quite stiff having lost its flexibility. Is there any way to restore some suppleness to this handle please?
