Re: BVWS Golborne Meeting - November 2nd
If you do decide to join the BVWS on the day it would be for 2015 now, and the rest of 2014 (including the winter bulletin) would be free.

Re: BVWS Golborne Meeting - November 2nd
Hi Jon
Mike (chairman), Jim and myself will be there hovering about the BVWS stall. Do come and say hello! We can have a chat with you about the many benefits of joining the BVWS, we won't put the thumb screws on and make you join on the day!! We're a friendly lot! But you can join there and then should you wish, or take a membership form home and have a think. Good company, many bargains as always, ample parking, hot and cold snacks, hopefully see many of you there!

Thanks Dave, I am over in South Manchester so not far away so 10am is a good time.
Thank you Greg for the info, I will pop over and say hello and get a form, I had been looking the other day at membership which is how I spotted the Golborne event, I just need to sneak it as always past the boss. |

Re: BVWS Golborne Meeting - November 2nd
Hello Jon,
Yes do please come along and have a nice relaxing day out with lots of radios and radio people. Come and say hello to us at the BVWS table. I will be going from Stockport on Sunday morning and it is only 30 mins. around the M60 and off at Junction 13 and then down the A580. A nice easy drive. The Van is loaded (and I mean really 'loaded' up) with stuff from 1920's sets to People's sets to 1950's Bakelite's and lots of portable radios both valve and transistor. See you there, Mike...

Thank you too Mike. I have cleared the visit with the boss so I will be coming with the strict instruction of not coming home with any junk!

Unfortunately Mrs JonByrne's definition of Junk would probably not please many on this forum.

I'll be taking most of this stuff .
Otherwise, sadly, it's for the skip.

Re: BVWS Golborne Meeting - November 2nd
If you're hovering round 'Old John's' stall at some point, I'll most likely be able to make your acquaintance - I think you paid him a visit earlier in the week. I would be nice to meet someone else local to me. (I'm in Cottingham. Well not right now - I'm at a Premier Inn, five minutes from Golborne!). Hope to see you in the morning, all being well.
Enjoy the event - I always do!

Re: BVWS Golborne Meeting - November 2nd
In the hope that at least someone going to Golborne reads this beforehand, it is with deep regret that I must give my apologies that I will be unable to attend. Although I have been lying awake with a stomach upset, it is not so much feeling unwell that has led me to this decision as that having reached 1:00am without any apparent prospect of getting to sleep soon, I cannot see myself getting a sufficient amount of sleep for driving safely from West Cumbria to Golborne.
I hope that someone will be able to step in to run the bring and buy stall. I also give particular apologies to anyone with whom I had arranged to meet up, and hope that alternative arrangements can be made for any items I was intending to pick up.

Really sorry about that, Dave. Bet you'd like to meet that bloke "Sod!"
See you at next Golborne.

Re: BVWS Golborne Meeting - November 2nd
I would certainly like to have words with him about his "Law".
And, yes, I managed about one hour of sleep and have given up trying until tonight - so I definitely made the right decision.

Re: BVWS Golborne Meeting - November 2nd
Just returned home and had an excellent day, met with a few forum members. had a fun time fiddling with a couple of old sets with Steve P. And bought far more stuff than I intended, in that not can anyone help me track down one of the stall holders, he had the first of the round stalls in the middle of the room (nearest the tv display) and was selling among other sets a very nice Philips stereo valve radio. I bought two sets from this gentleman. and I believe I may have forgot to pay him for the second set. its only a matter of a couple of pounds but that’s not the point. If you are a forum member or you know the seller can you get in touch by PM please.

That was a fun day, I'm glad I went and it was nice to meet some of you guys. I hope to be a regular seller of valves at future events!
