There should be s microswitch inside and that is not working now. You shall have to open it up to check if the problem is with the acutateing mechanism or the switch itself.

If in doubt, read the service manual (registration required)

If this uses an AC mains motor, I suppose a suppressor cap on the switch might have failed s/c. You'll be able to check this once inside!

It is a direct drive DC servo motor.

I had this exact same problem on a mid-70s Sanyo deck just recently. I replaced the microswitch and still it ran! the culprit was a failed capacitor across the switch, it had failed and the circuit was therefore always connected

You need to take the deck out (find a manual) then look for the underdeck on/off switch (usually operated by a lever), it may be the switch or trace wiring further back to see if a capacitor has failed

Good luck

Hello.

Thank you for the replies.

It now turns on and off at the start of the record as it should, but it won't turn off when it is at the end of the record.

You need to take a look at the trip pawl or whatever system is used mechanically to activate the end stop. Likely hard grease stopping free movement of something. photos would help.

We really need to see a view around the centre spindle, from the top, with the turntable removed, as this is where the end trip is situated.

It should be clarified if the tonearm returns to rest but the motor does not stop or the auto return/stop function does not activate at all.

What you can do, with the turntable removed is turn the spindle clockwise and at the same time engage the large cog and see if it rotates.

As has been said it could be that its seized due to hardened grease, or it may be that the cog thats attached to the spindle has cracked and therefore not turning with the spindle.
