Default Can anybody identify these R2R heads

Can anybody identify what make of R2R these heads might be from ? I cannot easily recognize them when comparing them to various I am somewhat familiar with.

The head in the mu metal screen measures 83 Ohms/68mH & 83 Ohms/58mH, the other head measures 90 Ohms/51mH & 90 Ohms/62mH

The Ohms values are DC resistance as read by digital multimeter, the same results are obtained on a Chinese multi component tester

I'd guess at Miniflux/Woelke - there's a degree of subtlety in the design which indicates they aren't bargain basement.

Whatever make, the head faces have some nasty dings and scratches which won't enhance their performance.

Are they perhaps Russian? Some of the better ones were quite good reverse engineered from the West. The semi butterfly design looks different though, more NAB than IEC in track width.

Looks like standard quarter track stereo to me.

Yes thought they looked reasonable type of heads but as TIMTAPE says not in the best condition, although have seen a lot worse.

David, they normally have some Cyrillic text on them if they are but I think that would be under the shields. I have seen quite a few Revox style and others circular faced but never hyperbolic a la Teac/Tascam, though I think they cobbled those out too. Edit: I can see only one has a shield now, I must get better specs!

No obvious markings on either of the heads, apart from the 64286 tape on the one with shield.

I would say they're most likely either Soviet or European and unlikely to be US, Japanese or British since I'm not aware of any butterfly designs from those national manufacturers. I've never even seen 1/4 track butterfly ones. You could send the pictures off, if you really need to trace them, to AM Belgium and/or Photovox in Italy asking them if they know or even JRF magnetics in the US - since they are the most likely experts in this area. I can see too now that only one has a mount but both are still shielded - the actual heads are encased.

Not really familiar with the term "Butterfly" but by doing a Google search, see that Studer is one make that can have Butterfly heads.

I do not really need to trace them, more a point of interest.
