Technics RS-M1 Co-Deck
Hi All,
Has anyone got any experience with one of these beauties? It was a Japan only model, but looks pretty cool. I just picked this one up from the ZenMarket place and will be getting it over the coming weeks from Japan. I think the intended market was a semi-portable unit something you could easily take into the office perhaps from home? It was listed as being in working condition, but I'd still like to have a go at servicing and stuff etc. I haven't been able to find anything for it really though given that its such a rare model. Here is a couple of photos (attached) |

Re: Technics RS-M1 Co-Deck
This deck uses a very good easy to service mechanism that was widely used in many of Technics full cassette decks around the 1980/1983 period! Nice big flywheel & just 3 belts ISTR with good access when open! This as you know is a playback only deck & IMO one of the best of it's time...
These are extremely rare now in good condition! Easily good enough to enjoy very good playback quality through a decent amplifier - I hope you enjoy it! |

Re: Technics RS-M1 Co-Deck
Forgive me for being a bit dense, but why would a play-only deck have a microphone (top right)? I see a 'mic on' switch - maybe so you could hear ambient sounds?

I remember something very similar in style being used to record business-meetings for later transcription by an audiotypist.

Re: Technics RS-M1 Co-Deck
That's interesting and confirms my suspicion that the microphone is so you can hear someone talking when you press 'pause'. It must have been expensive to make that deck, and they didn't bother to remove the erase head either, though it's not used.
Who knew codec would come to mean something very different! |
