Default Marconi 563 Radiogram

Can anyone tell me what type of finish was used on this r/g I thought I read somewhere that it was rosewood, meths seems to dissolve the finish so is it shellac? Mick.

Meths certainly dissolves shellac - add a little oil to the cloth and the shellac can be moved about to smooth the finish back over scratches/chips.

Meths + shellac = French Polish.

I decided to send the Marconi 563 radiogram to the French polishers apparently the wood is walnut, the finish will be semi sheen lacquer I cannot wait to get it back and start to reassemble I will post some pictures when done . Mick.
