the little problem is mostly, that you have to bring them all at home, not only the one you want to have. You go anywhere to get a scope, and they load the car with.. greetings Martin |

Martin,
You're right. I found 3 Tektronix 500-series in a skip once (545B, 547, 575). You can never rescue just one. Ed. |

Re: Oscilloscope Collection / Junky
You guys make my small collection look quite second-rate! I have a fondness for Cossor valved scopes, as the line up of 339A, 1035 Mk III and 1071K demonstrates, all restored by me. The scope that gets the most use, however, is a fully transistorised Gould OS250B.
Here they all are, humming happily away in Cossor Corner.

Re: Oscilloscope Collection / Junky
Guten abend Martin,
No, the phosphors are all green. My photograph is not as good as yours! The big Cossor 1035 has a blue tint to a green phosphor. The focus is indeed very sharp, as mentioned by a previous contributor. I once had another Cossor 339A which I passed on to another Forum member; the phosphor was a very bright blue, which he described as "Harpic blue" (Harpic is a UK brand of toilet cleaning fluid with a very intense blue colour) Phil

Re: Oscilloscope Collection / Junky
Hi Martin,
My Spectrum Analyzer is a Hameg HM 8028. 0.5 - 500Mhz. It uses a scope in XY mode for display and does not rely on the scope's bandwidth. I also have the matching Tracking generator, most usefull when looking at filter response. I'm determined to find me an old Tek on a trolley Cheers Renato |

Now I'm really envious! As you may have seen from the website, with my collection I try and specialise in miniature valve scopes... I've never seen this model before, looks fantastic! Should you ever wish to part with it, you know who to call Ed. |

Re: Oscilloscope Collection / Junky
Ed, if you google
pikoscop ebay You can see that a couple of these sold recently on ebay in Germany for about 25 Euros each so maybe you should search for German sellers on ebay. |

Re: Oscilloscope Collection / Junky
Hi Greentrace, sorry Ed,
Nice collection, well done. My first scope was a Heathkit 10 4105??. Large transistor job that cost me many pennies. Around the same time I get involved in Ham radio classes and as a group project I build my first valve amp. It was also my last when the 800Vdc got the better of me. Thats is a long story. Now, I cannot get the thought of a large Tek room heater out of my head, and as Martin suggested, I'm on the hunt for a 500 series. There should be quite a few hiding around locally. Which brings me back to my question. I've come across many Heathkit scopes, I think 10-12 models, or there about. All valves, good nick etc. Please can I have an opinion on Heathkit scopes. It seems the logical place to start before a "Room heater" valve restoration project. All my gear must be working even if it's not used. Are Heathkit scopes repairable? Cheers all Renato |

Re: Oscilloscope Collection / Junky
Hi Renato,
Glad you like the site! "10-12" is a very common model number to see on t'internet, but it's not quite correct - the model is actually IO-12 ("Laboratory Oscilloscope", IIRC). I have two Heathkits in the collection, both OS-series, a 1 and a 2. The 2, with the copyright date 1979 in the manual, could be a contender for the last entirely-valve scope ever produced (even the rectifier is valve, AFAICR)? Since they were intended for end-users to build, I'd guess repairability should be on the good side? Certainly in the two models mentioned, everything is easily accessible (very much so in the case of the OS-1, it contains mostly empty space ), and the manuals can be easily had online. Also, thanks for the tip JMR and Martin, I'll keep an eye out on German eBay! Ed. |

Still tracking my Tek room heater while they are given away elsewhere on this forum. I'm sure they will all have good homes.
