Default Alba Radio 815 renovation

Hi
Have just recently acquired a Alba 815 radio , had a valve missing PenA4 valve missing ,have prchased one , plugged in
Checked the transormer resitance across plug appeared o.k so connected to lamp limiter tested o.k , tried with out lamp limiter quickly tested found radio to be working o.k
Would like to make radio safer to use ,replace few of old capacitors have downloaded the service manual , wondering which would be most important ones to change in the set , could anyone suggest

Trader sheet refs- C13, failure could be expensive. C7, 6, 2 and 1 could affect sensitivity badly if leaky, otherwise any other paper capacitor in there. The electrolytics could damage the HT supply or output valve / transformer if seriously leaky too.

About the only one you don't need to think about is THAT capacitor- there isn't one!

And if it's still fitted, get rid of the mains antenna arrangement.

Lawrence.

As in lose C17! Or at the very least, replace it with a 150pF Y-rated mains suppression type capacitor. The mains these days will be far too RF noisy for it to work usefully unless you're miles from the next nearest electricity consumer.

Clive, you've got quite a nice collection of radios going now. I've learnt a lot from your threads so keep them coming.

Are you going to keep them all, and can you update your album so that we can have a look?

Gabriel

Hi Gabriel.

As much as I like to keep all radios I have had I have limited space where I live so unable, and sooner they went to a good homes and can be used, I am keeping and collecting the ones I think are the best, updated album, the Alba radio I not had chance to do at moment but will again shortly.

Best Regards

Clive
