Question Pages on this site slow to load-why?

In case that doesn't explain fully what is happening, every time I want to switch from one page to another, which usually only takes a few seconds, this morning a message 'performing a TLS hanshake to www.vintage-radio.net appears, and the switchover takes anything from 20 seconds to a minute. I've forgotten what a 'FLS Handshake' is, or why it's necessary, but, as per thread title, why is this process much slower than usual?

Don't know why, but glad it isn't just me experiencing the same thing.

It’s been ok while I have been using it, doesn’t help with your problem though.

The forums were slow at around 8:50AM this morning.

No doubt Paul Stenning will be posting an update.

I have had this issue since last night, with images especially slow to load. It seems to be worse this morning.

I'm contacting the server support company now. I'll update when there is some news.

Of course the moment I open a support ticket, things seem to return to normal. However as it has been slow for at least an hour I am leaving the support ticket open. I have included a link to this thread.

Glad it wasn't my end. Still like wading in treacle now.

Then 4 mins later it has much improved...+thanks!

I haven't noticed anything out-of-the-ordinary, but maybe any problems are hidden by the general slowness of my "steam-driven" computer.

Things are working normally here again, too, now. Could it just have been similar to getting stuck in heavy traffic?

I am pretty well sure that Paul is doing the right thing.
Hosting companies generally tend to get a bit slow over time for small forums and need a bit of a poke every couple of years to keep the speed respectable.

It was very slow here around 09:00 and then, about half way through my viewing, things went back to full speed. I should just mention that I have seen this happen on a couple of other occasions during the last two weeks but I didn't note the times or days.

The hosting company couldn't find anything specific around that time other than general higher server load due to various websites on it all being very busy at the same time, and a backup also running. They will continue to monitor it.

It is a shared hosting platform so unfortunately these things will happen from time to time.

Usually it runs very well but this morning was really slow going. Good now.

Many thanks for all the hard work!
