Default Alusol solder other uses

Hi all
I hope this might be useful to know
I was trying to solder battery springs ( plated ) using standard tin/lead solder .No luck !
I thought I would try Alusol solder used for aluminium.Success !
I've also used it successfully for difficult jobs such as soldering tarnished wires such as ferrite aerials and earphone / battery wires
Cheers Pete

I expect the flux in Alusol is more active. It would be a good idea to wash off any flux residue- the data sheet recommends this and says it's corrosive.

It worked for me to resolder broken, very fine wires on a tweeter wires that would not solder with regular stuff.

The flux is very active, corrodes steel.

If you have problems soldering iron and steel, La-Co flux works brilliantly.

It is a plumber's flux but not horribly corrosive, still better to wash it of thoroughly, warm water is best.

The co reps at exhibitions would offer to ingest a little to prove how harmless it was, wonder if any are still alive.

I think I need better glasses. I wondered why a well know haemeroid preparation was subject to a post.

Grooooaan!

However there many be a vague connection via soldering iron and cauterisation to haemorrhoids

I think this thread may have plumbed its depths by now
