Default Wood chopping board from IKEA

Might not be a bargain, but certainly very useful!

IKEA are selling large wooden chopping boards for about £8.

They are about 530mm x 460mm wide, and 20mm thick.

They make great workbench protectors.

If used upside down, the lip on the front stops them moving back on the bench.

Put two together and you have a brand new work surface on your bench!

Maybe useful for putting on the dining room table before stripping that old AR88!

Also, as you've shown in your photo, you can use it to keep tools etc out of the way of the actual work area. Nice one!

That's beech block worktop stuff. Ikea sold it full worktop size under their name "pronomen"

I built a full kitchen out of it.... nice stuff

Good evening,
That's a good idea, you could have a few and have a sacrificial one for metalwork/drilling/banging things!!

I found may years ago Tesco were selling very thick white nylon chopping boards very cheaply. I bought several, cut them up and glued them together and made a replacement cable duct for the busbars coming out of the class 45 main generator which had been damaged when the power unit was removed!

Whilst my wife peruses goods for the home I always peruse for items that could be 'repurposed' or useful additions to the workshop.

The chopping board looks to be exactly the kind of 'solution' looking for an answer!

Nice idea! I can definitely see a place for one on my workbench; maybe also milling a shallow 'gutter' around the edges would be a useful modification to stop the inevitable small-things-rolling-off-and-vanishing syndrome?

A gutter on the front and bullnose beading round the other three sides would set it off nicely.

Turn the board over and there is a neat gutter already cut into the surface around the edges!!!

I use it upside down, so the lip on the front stops the board being pushed back on the bench.

All very well and pretty, new bench, lovely but you dare not do anything on it and stuff rolls off. Old tatty bench, gets used and (because of the grooves) not much rolls off. A well made bench that has seen use (I think it's called patina) is much better than anything never used.

My old bench (when I can see it!) is knackered, I may look into the Ikea worktop for a replacement. There is one great thing about replacing a bench top is that you have to clear up first, not my strong point, at least I can still find the workshop.
