Connecting Record/Erase head wires Akai GX210d
The thin black wire that connects to the center lug on my Akai GX210d Record/Erase head is still attached to the "center" lug on the head, but has come loose from wherever it is supposed to connect to at the other end. I can't even find that wire on the schematic, so am at a loss where to resolder it.
Help! |

Re: Connecting Record/Erase head wires Akai GX210d
Is there any fault associated with this wire not being connected ?
Do you have a photo of the head wiring and the black wire not being connected ? David |

Re: Connecting Record/Erase head wires Akai GX210d
The circuit shows the two erase coils in series, so the wire is probably the screen, and
should be connected to any ground point that can be soldered, e.g. existing tag. |

Re: Connecting Record/Erase head wires Akai GX210d
I am guessing it goes to ground, but want to confirm before soldering it in. It's the thin black wire that connects to a rectangular lug that sits in the middle of the back between the other solder tabs.

Re: Connecting Record/Erase head wires Akai GX210d
I have just checked my GX-210D.
Yes it connects to ground. The short black wire connects to a solder tag just above and to the left of the Erase/Record head, the solder tag is secured to the head plate which is at ground potential. There also is a black sleeved wire connected to the tag, this is the screen of the 2 core (red and white) screened cable for the erase signals that connect from the head to the 10 way P9 card edge type plug (plugs into J9) pins 9 and 10 just a few inches behind. |
