Default Flight Refuelling Hamfest

The FRARS Hamfest is on 8th August, at BH21 1RJ
which is just south of Wimborne (Dorest) on the A 341

Opening time, 10.00. £3.50 each. Free parking.

(Talk in on 145.55.)

Although mainly amateur radio equipment, there is always a selection of test equipment, domestic radio, and other electronic "goodies" for sale.

Large marquees full of radio, computing, and electronics traders.

"Car boot" sale area outside. (usually some bargains there.)

Bill Journeaux will be showing off his unique collection of antique radio and television equipment.

Hi Alan

I've not visited this one before.
Is the boot sale part inside the complex, or outside in a public area ?
In other words, can one only 'view' the 'boots' from opening time ?

Regards
Pete

I can only base it upon past events, and so unless they have changed anything, you will need to get into the car park, before seeing anything, and hence, wait until opening time.

There is always a queue to get in, so leave time for that.
Even with delays etc, there are always plenty of bargains. Last year I bought two working AVOs at £4 each, and a Megger for £2.

Thanks for info Alan.

This will save me from getting up 'really' early.
Think I'll therefore be attending !

Hello there,
I may be interested in going. How similar is it to the DDRC radio rally that was held at Luton a few montha ago if anyone has been to both? How much is outside in case the weather is poor?
Many thanks,
Christopher Capener

I cant comment on the DDRC rally as I havent been there.

Usually, there is enough under cover to cater for the average shower etc and still keep amused. (Plus a decent bar/restaurant on site).

Dont know what one would do in the event of continuous torrential downpour, but at least there wouldnt be much competition for things.

HI There

The DDRC is entirely a boot sale, but the Flight refuelling has a boot sale area and a more formal area with traders (all outside) and there are possibly three marquees plus some exibits/food in the club house.

Well worth going, I shall be there.

Hello there,
Went along today even though it was rather a long way to drive (144 miles each way)

A good event with quite a range of things for sale (though a little too much junk!) and I was worrying that there was going to overwhelmed by a lot of obsolete computer equipment which luckily there was not much.

The Tesla coil looked good even though some of the experiments diddnt work very well !!

Came away with a roll of proper 60/40 solder and a few of those red handled GPO screwdrivers. Also came away with a combined vectorscope and waveform monitor.

and...

Wait for it !! ....

A Creed model 7B teleprinter with case for £1.50 !! and it was rather heavy!

(Never ceases to suprise me with what I will bring home next!!)

I didnt notice the Creed (or I might have been tempted) but did buy some wire, solder tags, speaker fret, a whip aerial and other assorted items (aka junk).

Nearly bought a coil winder but the seller and I couldnt agree on a price.

Was the seller desperate or did you haggle well, I'm sure it was a fiver when I saw it!

I managed the usual junk and a nice little Levell TM6B Broadband Voltmeter (much easier to carry).

Good luck with your teleprinter.

Hello there,
I diddn't spot the Creed until someone took the cover off of it. I thought it was a lawnmower grass box!!

I think the cheap price was down to I expect that his missus was rather keen to see the back of it !!

The combined vectorscope and waveform monitor is made by Electronic Visuals and the model numbers are

Vectorscope EV4020
Waveform monitor EV4030a

I think I will go along next year if the weather is as good as it was on Sunday
