Re: Triang Children's Record Player
What do you mean by 4 tags? And I've been told not to solder to the cartridge, so I assume you mean after I've soldered the cables to the board? I don't have any although if you have a link for them I'd be more than happy to buy them myself.

Re: Triang Children's Record Player
No, as aready explained in some detail, you solder the cartridge connecting tags to the wires first. Then, and only then, do you push fit them onto the cartridge pins.

EDIT: Disregard, it figures I don't have any tags. So I need to order some. |

Re: Triang Children's Record Player
NO!
You solder to wire the a push on tag, then push the tag on to the pin of the cartridge. The important thing is not to put a hot soldering iron anywhere near the cartridge, it will destroy it.

https://www.tubesandmore.com/product...dge-assortment The left half is what pushes onto the cartridge pin but only after the soldering has been done, the connector is best held lightly in a small vice or crocodile clip or something similar, the connecting wire is stripped back a bit and tinned and the tinned bit is laid in the narrow cradle to the right and soldered in place, when it's cooled down the wire clamps on the far right hand side are bent and crimped over the wires insulation, only then should the connector be pushed on to the cartridge pin. Look at the last picture in this link: https://www.thevoiceofmusic.com/cart...stitution.html It shows the connectors pushed on to the cartridge pins after the wires have been soldered, it also shows what you need to achieve for connecting the left and right channel outputs of the cartridge together, here they've done a Y configuration the two wires to the amplifier would be connected to the tail of each Y one being the signal ground and the other being the signal feed, another way to do it is to do the parallel connections using a small loop of wire and connect the signal feed wire to either tag, same for the signal ground wire. Some careful neat soldering needed but the job as a whole isn't rocket science. Lawrence. |

Re: Triang Children's Record Player
OHHH, okay, I get it now. Solder the wire to the tag and then push the tag on-to the cartridge. Right. Got it. Looks like the wire bridging is just what I expected it to be too.
Also, would the tag you listed fit my cartridge? |

Re: Triang Children's Record Player
I've been doing some research and I've figured out exactly what I need to order. Should be getting to work on it again very soon.

Re: Triang Children's Record Player
Presumably then, you've lashed it all up temporarily and found it to be all functioning as it should? If you're now ordering more components for it

Re: Triang Children's Record Player
Well no, I only just figured out everything about cartridge tags haha.
But after a little more soldering it should be ready for a first test! |

Re: Triang Children's Record Player
Apologies about this all taking so long, my soldering skills are terrible. I have got the cartridge tags now, so all should be ready to go once I've got that wired up.

Just bumping this so it doesn't get deleted along with my account. It is almost done, having issues with my soldering iron though.

Re: Triang Children's Record Player
Keep forgetting to ask my dad to help me solder (I'm helpless on my own)
I'll try and get it finished by the end of this week. |
