Re: Dansette Bermuda MK II ??
I am a novice at circuits and trying to understand this one. In particular what are the values of the sufflex capacitors that also need to be replaced. I obtained online a copy of the operating instructions and circuit diagram but the copy could be better. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks |

Re: Dansette Bermuda MK II ??
Interesting, but it doesn't quite match your player. There's no mains dropper resistor and the smoothing or filter resistor is 120R rather than 100R.
It's good enough though. If you're bent on changing the Sufflex capacitors I'd follow Lawrence's advice and change those with HT on them. ie audio coupler, tone corrector and tone control.

Quote:
From left to right on the schematic: Ceramic types (the red ones) 1st, 2nd & 11th. Sufflex types (the silvery ones) 3rd = 0.01uf, 5th = 0.047uF, 6th = 0.01uF, 7th = 0.0022uF, 8th = 0.047uF. Electrolytic types (in the big can) 4th, 9th & 10th. As a minimum I would replace the 5th, 7th & 8th, the latter two need to be rated at twice the HT voltage at least. EDIT: Post crossed.....It would also be handy to know the value of the large green WW resistor in the photo? Lawrence. |

Just measured the green resistor and it reads 1.6k.

Re: Dansette Bermuda MK II ??
That's good. I wonder if it's a modification made because the deck or motor was changed for one not having a 90V tap?

Re: Dansette Bermuda MK II ??
The twin colour wire from the Welwyn to the heaters doesn't look right for a Dansette either, looks as though the neutral feed to the chassis via the screened cable has been bypassed with that twin colour wire and a wire that goes to the motor via the choc bloc....If I'm looking at it right.

Re: Dansette Bermuda MK II ??
The green Welwyn resistor looks too good for a Dansette.

Aye, deck mod I would say.

Re: Dansette Bermuda MK II ??
Seems to work though. The OP reported mechanical problems which have been fixed and has now moved on to changing electrical components.

Re: Dansette Bermuda MK II ??
The green Welwyn resistor also looks like it is not soldered, at least at the end I can see!

Re: Dansette Bermuda MK II ??
As per Post #9, the original BSR Autochanger has been replaced with a better quality Garrard 2000 and the motor in this does not have a 90V tap. That bodged in Welwyn should be the giveaway.

Re: Dansette Bermuda MK II ??
Thanks to all for their advice. I have attached a photo for confirmation of the sufflex capacitors that Lawrence suggested changing. I believe these are to be replaced with polystyrene caps butI have been unable to locate the 0.047uf only the 0.0022uf at 160V - can you suggest where I can obtain these.
My post 35 identified resistors that were not within tolerance and will replace unless it is not regarded as necessary. Will 2W be adequate? The green welwyn resistor is not soldered at one end and I will correct this. Should I replace the 100 ohm wire wound resistor even though the wire is burnt but the reading OK? Any tips in replacing these components would be helpful as I have not soldered on a PCB board/limited space before but just on rails in a Hacker. Martin |

Re: Dansette Bermuda MK II ??
Various suppliers, here's one:
https://www.cricklewoodelectronics.c...for-Audio.html Use the 630 volt ones. The resistors you measured aren't that far out but if you want to replace them the 2 watt types will do but they won't be dissipating that amount of power, 1/2 watt would do. No need to replace the 100 ohm wire wound if it measures ok. Be careful when applying the soldering iron to the copper tracks on the PCB, they can easily lift if the soldering iron is applied for too long. Lawrence. |

Re: Dansette Bermuda MK II ??
Further to my post 53 and photo attached. I purchased the capacitors as identified on the photo and just removed the old ones. Nos 5 and 7 are marked as 01 KV and No. 8 .033 KX.
Please could you confirm that I am replacing with the correct capacitors 0.0022 and 0.047. Thanks Martin |

Re: Dansette Bermuda MK II ??
You should have checked the actual values that were fitted before ordering....If they are original then that's the value they are, manufactures were always changing things to different but not always updating their manuals or issuing amended schematics.
The ones you have ordered will probably be ok. Lawrence. |

Re: Dansette Bermuda MK II ??
Thanks Lawrence. I did not remove first as it makes it easier for me to remember where to replace if I do it at the same time. Unfortunately, I could not see the markings whilst in place. I will remember this for future reference.

Re: Dansette Bermuda MK II ??
You don't always have to remove the component, just disconnect one end and give it a gentle twist until the value comes into view.

Re: Dansette Bermuda MK II ??
Finally replaced the capacitors after waiting on replacements for the incorrect voltage caps being sent. I am just in the process of cleaning the deck before putting it back and checking if the auto changer will now work. I have just removed the cartridge to identify and found it is a BSR X3M. Is this OK to play both old and new vinyl in mono/stereo? The stylus would need replacing if the cartridge is kept.
Thanks |
