Default MURPHY DAY "GRAND TELEVISION DISPLAY" 18th September

This year the BVWS supported "MURPHY DAY" will be a Celebration of "MURPHY TELEVISION"!

The entire display will be made up of television sets manufactured by Murphy Radio Ltd. Starting with the 1937 A42V mirror lid set right through every model (and model variant) we can lay our hands on, through to the 1980's Colour sets.

Apart from the sets themselves, many of which will be working throughout the day there will also be a lot of the supporting ephemera, banners, signs etc.

The event will be held at the Mill Green Museum, Bush Hall Lane, Mill Green, Hatfield. Herts. AL9 5PD.

The museum is very easily found and well sign posted, just off the A1000.
Plenty of free car parking on site and along the lane right up to the Pub!

The Display will be open from mid-day until 5pm.

There are many other attractions to see at the Museum with a working water mill grinding flour and in the other garden area will be a Gardening and Allotment show in the afternoon.

Now a Call to all Murphy Television owners, particularly those of the 1960's, 70's and 80's era.
If you have a Murphy TV and you are able to bring it along for the show can you please PM me with the Model of the set so that I can work out space for the display and fill any gaps in the TV's we may have.
I would like to make this the most complete showing of Televisions from one manufacturer that has ever taken place. Probably more complete than anything anywhere else.

This is always a great day out with plenty of cream tea's and cakes available in the pleasant surrondings of the water Mill.

I would particularly like to find a Green and a Blue version of the Acoustic Deluxe Televisions if anyone has these.

HI Mike.
I do know Bob in Sorn has Green and Red monochrome acoustic de luxe's. Snag is they are in Scotland and I can't go as I am working!

There is also five or six V310's, V290CA, V300 chassis, (working). I also have the usual suspects V310, V320A, V530 & V659X
Also a V114 awaiting some time to finish.

Hi Trevor,

I would certainly like the Green Set, but the distance is the problem here.
We already have a White, Red and Black version of the B&W early Acoustic Deluxe sets on hand.

I had the chance of a Blue one about 4-5 years ago now in nice condition. I foolishly decided not to buy it at the time, but rerget not doing so now.

I am pretty sure all of the others you mention are here, but not in working condition like yours, but again the distance is a problem unless anyone from your area is likely to make the trip down.

Many Thanks,

Mike...

Alas I shall be working that day but if anyone wants to collect a pair of dual standard colour Murphys on their way through (one 19" - CV1912 and one 25" - CV2510) then I'd be happy to lend them out.

Kind regards.

From Mike.

Hi Mike. If you're not busy sometime during the week or weekend, I could come over for a natter and collect the sets from you ready for the 18th. Cheers, Neil.

Hi Mike. Would you be interested in a V116? I unfortunately, can't make the show but I could drop the TV somewhere convenient.

Hi Neil.

That sounds fine - as long as you don't mind the drive from Wales to Solihull - it is a bit of a trek. I'll send you a PM.

The sets themselves are both "Works in progress" so, whilst they basically work, they'll both have to be static exhibits this time round.

Thanks Neil.

Kind regards.

From Mike.

Hi Mike. I'm sorry to say I won't be able to make it on the 18th as something else has cropped up. Cheers,
Neil.

Hello Brian,

Thanks for the offer of a V116.

I do have one here which is not restored (like most of my collection).

Many Thanks,

Mike...

Hi Neil,

Sorry to hear that you cannot make it to Murphy Day.

It is looking like a very nice day and there is a huge amount of stuff here to load on the van for show.

Best regards,

Mike...

Hi All,

With a van crammed full of Murphy TV's including all of the known Pre-war models we are setting off for Mill Green Museum and the Murphy Day Display.

Several other Forum Members will also be displaying their Murphy TV's.

Come along for a pleasant afternoon of Working 405 Line TV's and Cream Tea's.

And a very interesting day it was too! It was great to see so many different sets, many working all afternoon (without any smoke escaping!).

Having now seen the complexity of Murphy's version of how to build a television in the late 1930's I am VERY glad that I was seduced by an HMV - much simpler for a numpty like me!

Thanks to Mike & all the others for putting on an excellent show.

Hi All,

Here are a few pictures from MURPHY DAY.

It was a really pleasant day with lots of visitors to the Museum and lots of interest throughout the afternoon including the Mayor and the local radio.

What a shame we did not see more forum members !!!
