Re: The Most Beautiful TV Set
Blimey, Manor Supplies, that's a blast from the past. Used to work with the guy that owned it, we were both at a hospital working in the electronics dept. I think it was the Royal Free, I know it had 7810Z as the code for the door. Come to think of it I think my tube rejuvenator came from them. My fav. set to work on (not to look at) was the TX9 (the 1044 version) because that's what I learned and trained on most.

Re: The Most Beautiful TV Set
Well, the man who established Manor Supplies was a Mr Sylvester but he retired and passed the business on to some gents of Middle Eastern appearance in the 1980s (I think). My dealings with MS were mainly in the 1970s and early 80s.

Re: The Most Beautiful TV Set
Think I'd have to nominate the Murphy V136C in this category. Vision and sound in perfect balance Runners-up the TV22 and Dynatron Falcon. Various B&Os about the only contenders that come to mind from the last thirty years or so.

Re: The Most Beautiful TV Set
Hi
I learnt on the G6 so it has a special place, but as to beautiful...?? Ah Gary - the white G8 - a friend had his eye on one in a colleague's workshop and I was a close second in the stakes last year. Then one day a G8-shaped space appeared. 'I didn't think you were serious, so it went to the tip - why are you crying?' Glyn |

Re: The Most Beautiful TV Set
Here's the most beautiful set I actually own, an 1964 Astor Plymouth in rose mahogany with gold trim. Normally I go for more coolly modern stuff, but this one looks fantastic when the light hits the thick layer of red varnish and makes me think of an expensively packaged box of dark chocolate!

Here's my 1966 Westinghouse "Multimatic" made by the Greek company "Pitsos". It works but the picture is dim.

Re: The Most Beautiful TV Set
Sounds daft but I have been on the lookout for a Ferguson Colourstar 3703 or the Marconiphone version with the black front and the knobs under the tube - probably just that the layout was a bit different! If anyone has or knows of one for sale please let me know! Not seen one for 30 years since I used to get sets from the tip as a whipper snapper!

Re: The Most Beautiful TV Set
it was just before Christmas 1973 and i was 7 and my dad said he has a surprise in the living room for us for Christmas
and as a treat he brought a brand new 26 inch Decca colour tv a bit like the one in the picture in a teak cabinet ours had the controls along the bottom of the screen and has square push buttons for channel change and sliding controls for sound /contrast /colour and my favourite control was a dimer for the panel lighting it think it was 26 inch screen and was the biggest tv any one had seen in my family and was a real talking point back then . i would love too know what model it was ? any one know i can remember it had Decca colour on the tv and gave good service up to around 1989 when one day it won't power up i do remember having a look in the back and there was no valves heater glowing so some sort of psu fault i guess happy days so this tv gets my vote for best tv |

Re: The Most Beautiful TV Set
I always had a soft spot for the Acoustic de Luxe as well, John. Not keen on that colour though - I preferred the white or the 'pea soup' green.
I remember we looked after Ron Hill's (famous runner) AdL which was in white, and his whole house was done in white and pale greys. Very Groovy!

Re: The Most Beautiful TV Set
From my own collection, my favorite sets are as follows:
From the late 40's it has to be the dinky little Pye D18T console, a very neat classic design where form follows function. From the early fifties it has to be the TV12/TV22, wonderful art deco styling and lovely marbled Bakelite. A true icon. I also like both the Pye LV20 and the later V09 'washboard' 9" sets. Heading toward the mid 50's, it has to be the huge but very stylish Alba TR9874 TV/radio console. A beautifully finished cabinet on a par with Dynatron, you had to be very well off to buy one of these in 1953! From the mid to late 50's I have to agree that the Murphy V310 is a very stylish set, I also nominate the Pam 600F. Going into the 60's the introduction of the 110 degree tubes produced some very slim and stylish designs. I love the look of the Pam console sets such as the 804, the GEC bow front range and the Sobell T279. From the 70's it has to be the Kerracolour, the Murphy acoustic range and some of the stylish B&W portables from the likes of Indesit and JVC. As I have no interest from anything produced after the 70's, I could not possibly comment on later models I have to say that some sets really made an effort with design and stood out from the sea of uninspired brown boxes churned out by many manufacturers. Hence why the stylish sets are still sought after today. Mark |

Re: The Most Beautiful TV Set
The Nordmende Stereo Sonic was very nice looking set very expensive in its day. They were handsome and used to come in all sorts of colours, there was also a 3D version.
The best looking sets at the time were the 12" B/W Indesit, not sure of the model could have been 12GBT. had a dark filter screen and came in orange and white. later chassis had pushbutton tuners. |

Re: The Most Beautiful TV Set
Just to throw my hat into the ring!
For me it just has to be the GEC Electra from around 1964. The 19" version differs slightly to this 23" model but both are super looking sets. Regards all, Mick. |
