HMV Cavendish Beehive Heater S/N
I have just taken possession of an HMV Cavendish Beehive heater and am interested in when it was made, but can't find any references to models and serial numbers.
Mine is an HC6B with s/n GP 04236. I've seen HC2s on eBay, so this must be quite a late model. Anyone have a source of info on model and serial numbers? |

Re: HMV Cavendish Beehive Heater S/N
I have a red version bought at a jumble sale in about 1974 for 50p. It also has the cover missing over the neon. As a guess I would say it dates from about 1960 but I’m sure others will have a better idea Andy

Re: HMV Cavendish Beehive Heater S/N
I've not see that color combination before, I've seen the red and I own a cream with a black top and cream with a nicely mottled brown top.
I rather like these heaters, a lovely warm glow when on and the case apart from the bottom plinth and back is made of that wonderful Bakelite material. The louvers can fracture due to the heat passing through them so I only use mine on 1 kw setting rather then the 2 Kw setting. As for dating them, I suspect from the way they're made from the 1950's and probably still available new into the 1960's. I'd be interested to know more about them too. I wonder if these heaters had some influence in the creation of the Dalek.

I believe these were manufactured by Plessey. John.
