Re: Dansette Bermuda MK II ??
Crossed with Lawrence.
I don't have the circuit for the Dansette Prince. It's your choice.

Re: Dansette Bermuda MK II ??
Can the OP double check that there is no metallised Rank-Bush-Murphy model number nameplate at the back of the case?

Re: Dansette Bermuda MK II ??
The plate on the back says Dansette Model Type M with serial no 008329.
I presume the sufflex capacitors are the silver type. Does anyone have a circuit diagram for the Bush RP60 or the Dansette Prince? |

Re: Dansette Bermuda MK II ??
Bush RP60 service info available here:-
http://www.service-data.com/product.php/729/1006/t10729 It may not match your player exactly, but it'll do. The Sufflex capacitors are indeed the small silver ones.

Re: Dansette Bermuda MK II ??
The Prince one is here, it will be different but it has the hum cancelling output transformer and the 12k screen feed resistor which I think yours might have:
https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...6&d=1384595775 It would be good for the forums data if you could reverse engineer the schematic from your record player before anything is replaced. Lawrence. |

Re: Dansette Bermuda MK II ??
I have now managed to obtain from ebay a copy of the instructions with circuit diagram for the player. If anyone requires a copy at any time I would be happy to do so..Whilst I appreciate all the advice given by members I have been reading online about the sufflex capacitors and there does appear to be a difference in opinion as to their reliability.AS I am still a novice at reading circuits and restoration I would like to only change the components that HAVE to be changed as there is limited space on this circuit in comparison to the Hacker I did before.I have attached a photo of the red wax capacitors and would appreciate comments as to whether these should be changed as a matter of course. They look fine to me.
Thanks Martin |

Re: Dansette Bermuda MK II ??
Those look like ceramic capacitors, they should be fine if they are in the signal circuit.

Re: Dansette Bermuda MK II ??
Further to the suggestion to change the sufflex capacitors and the apparent difference in opinion as to their reliability.Would it be better to leave them if the player is working OK once it has been cleaned and the auto changer operational. If it is best to change them, please advise what type and where I can obtain them.
Thanks Martin |

Re: Dansette Bermuda MK II ??
Back in the day I've had them go short circuit and open circuit, If they have HT on them I personally would change them, you don't have to bother trying to replace them with the same type, just the same (or near as practical) value, and the same or greater max working voltage.

Re: Dansette Bermuda MK II ??
The caps in the picture, post 28, are not Suflex caps but ceramic and unlikely to fail. Suflex types are normally transparent coverings over the silver foil.

Sufflex types are in an earlier photo post, or at least I think that's what they are.

Re: Dansette Bermuda MK II ??
I have three resistors that are not within tolerance. They are 10k reading 12.8k, a 100k reading 122k and a 3.3k reading 4.07k. Should I replace with metal foil 2 watt resistors with the correct resistance.
Thanks, Martin. |

Re: Dansette Bermuda MK II ??
Surprising no-one has mentioned that the 100 Ohm black resistor has severely overheated and burnt the sleeving even if it is still within tolerance, probably wrong wattage or fault in the rectifier if that is where it is connected. What is purpose of the big green resistor?

Re: Dansette Bermuda MK II ??
Looking at a similar circuit I'll hazard a guess that the 100R is the smoothing resistor and the green resistor is a 120R surge limiting resistor.
The one I'd be sure to check would be the 180R cathode resistor of the output valve.

Re: Dansette Bermuda MK II ??
I reckon the 100 ohm WW is the surge limiter, the large green WW the heater dropper and the 100 ohm on top of the sound output transformer is the HT filter resistor.

Re: Dansette Bermuda MK II ??
Quite likely, but with no definitive circuit diagram to work to, we'll have to wait for the OP to trace out the circuit.
Based on a 240VAC supply the green resistor would need to have a value of around 1.5k

Re: Dansette Bermuda MK II ??
Here's one but without a dropper resistor:
https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...3&d=1224928154 The mains in from the on/off switch is the red wire, it connects to the motor feed and the 100 ohm surge limiter, the other end of that resistor is connected to pin 9 (a) of the rectifier, the white wire is the motor tap and is connected to pin 4 of the rectifier, pin 5 goes to feed the UCL82, pin 3 (k) is the yellow wire, it's connected to the reservoir capacitor and one side of the HT filter resistor (100 ohm on the transformer).
