Default Anyone recognise this little Sobell transistor set ?

Hello,

I have this pretty little leather cased Sobell pocket 7 transistor radio but it has no model number on it anywhere. It doesn't work so I'm going to need service data for it. Does anyone know what model this is please ? Thanks.

Howard

Hello Howard,

Not definite, but a look at Newnes R+TVS suggests to me the S303BT from 1961-2, the more so if there's a slider wavechange switch on the left hand side of the cabinet! Battery PP6, transistors OC44, OC45x2, OC71, OC81D, OC81x2.

Regards,
Paul

Hello Paul,

Yes it does have a slider waveband switch on the side, and I've now looked up the S303BT on my Vintage Radio Service data CD-ROM number 1 and that does indeed look like the one on Trader service sheet 1487. Thanks.

I'll get on now and clean it up and hopefully get it working again.

Hi Howard, My best guess was the S303BT as well , I have buried away somewhere a scruffy example that my father had from new, I remember it survived falling in a river once on a fishing trip in the '60s . Still worked the last time i tried it! Good luck with it.

Regards, Mick.

McMichael had an identical set--was blue vinyl and had a simulated mother of pearl dial.

According to trader sheet 1487, the McMichael M103BT has the same chassis as this set.

I've got this set working now, and it'll probably feature in Success Stories later today.

I'm 99% sure it is indeed an S303BT.

I had one a long while back and there was a thread on it. Can't find the thread though.

As I recall, I started the thread due to the suspicious similarities between this Sobell and the Perdio Super 7. The chassis, switches and location thereof, plus position of tuning dial are virtually identical. Paul_RK may remember this as I think he was the main member discussing this with me.
