Our preparedness for hostilities in the 1930s was exceptional. My father managed a Joseph Rank flour mill in Royal Victoria Dock until it was totally Blitzed in 1940. He was then sent to Bath to run a newly re-commissioned steam driven mill as well as two more in the area. Secret gain stores were also his remit.
