The first valve's code changed from L2D to LtD. Maybe the second valve code is not 9r1, but something which looks a bit like 9r1. A picture would help.

Some EF80s are shown in the picture below. Most are the classic Philips/Mullard type.

9r1 is indeed the code on the valve in picture 4. The rest of the code is just not readable.

Some fine looking EF80's there Dave.

The one on the right looks like the MAZDA version.

Cheers

Photo attached of the 9r1 code, not very easy to read in the photo but clear under a magnifying glass.
Two other photos attached to show the 'messy' glass joint at the base of the valve which I've just noticed. The valve actually sits at an angle when it's in a socket! Is the construction more like the earlier B8A valves?

Hopefully a clearer photo of the 9r and a photo of the bottom of the valve.

The photo shows the early frit glass technique as mentioned by Marteen which he says looks like the flat style button base is fritted on. Most of the wonky but functional leaning valves were rejected and resold by sellers such as SOLUS and willow etc.

Yes, that certainly looks like 9r1. However, the characters look a bit 'wobbly' to me, which can sometimes be a sign of a valve made for Philips rather than in a Philips factory. This happened more often in the later days of valves (e.g. BEL, Ei), yet the base looks like an early one. Is it possible that Philips sold an old machine to one of their suppliers?

How are your EF91s and EB91s doing in their dark corner?

It's a pity the bigger audio bottles are just not interested in getting it together......

Don't tempt me to open their box. It's a similar story with the EF50's..J.

I love the shape of the evacuation seal on the third from the left. It looks like a smurf's hat!
