Marconiphone 4247 reel to reel
HI all,
I've just fixed a Marconi 4247 4 track reel to reel which had low sound levels. I thought I'd document the job here. The problem was that some of the electrolytic capacitors had gone bad - mostly the dreaded Callins, one of which had broken open! I also replaced a few others by Daly and 'SWT' at the same time, just incase they weren't performing well. I changed them all with better quality Elna/RS branded caps and an axial Philips for the main smoother. Luckily the belts were all still functioning well, so I left well alone. Now the sound level is back as it should be, now it's producing nice, clear sound quality, as good or perhaps better than when it was new - as those Callins caps were never any good! I'll leave some photos of the job before and after, and a photo of the removed caps, in case someone else needs to do a similar job in the future. Cheers Rob

Re: Marconiphone 4247 reel to reel
Hi!
Is that a two speed or three speed model? Can anyone tell me if there were Ferguson/HMV/Ultra direct equivalents? If it's three speed stereo transistorised I'd definitely be interested in buying one as a future project but ebay prices thave been just silly in recent years – can anyone offere other sites or places to look please? Re: Marconiphone 4247 reel to reel
Ferguson brand would have been "3247"
Based on the drive belt path it is a single speed model. |

Mono single speed 4 track. Based on Philips EL3558 type mech. There was a 2 speed variant but these are low speed (1 7/8, 3 3/4 ips) units.
