Re: Triang Children's Record Player
Having some problem with my soldering iron, so haven't done anything yet. I think I've got it working so hopefully should start soon.

Re: Triang Children's Record Player
So I've just realised it looks like there is a capacitor missing. There is meant to be a square of three of them but the one that faces horizontally doesn't seem to be there, it also looks like that corner of the board has been snapped. Thoughts?

Re: Triang Children's Record Player
Yours would appear to be the same as this one:
https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...6&d=1176569869 The cut off corner is normal and so is the "missing" capacitor. Here's a reverse engineered schematic that goes with the one in the above link: https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...6&d=1176569869 Thread pertaining to the above link can be found here: https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...t=16054&page=2 Lawrence. |

Re: Triang Children's Record Player
As I was looking at photos for the other model I think I may have soldered the volume wheel wires into the wrong places. Does it matter what places they're in?

Re: Triang Children's Record Player
The yellow should be connected to the middle tag on the volume control.
At this stage of the game it won't matter which way round the green and blue wires are connected so long as one goes to one of the outer tags on the volume control and the other goes to the other outer tag on the volume control. I say it won't matter at the moment because I wouldn't know off hand if the operation of the edgewise volume control is normally towards the front of the record player to increase volume or away from the front, nor do I know the track law of the volume control, convention says it should be log but you never know with this cheap stuff. Re: Triang Children's Record Player
Do the two speaker cables need to be connected to a specific joint on the speaker or does it not matter?

Re: Triang Children's Record Player
Oh and also the cartridge I ordered has four connections, but there is only two wires. What should I connect? Also where is the internal connection for the cartridge wires?

Re: Triang Children's Record Player
The cartridge you have ordered is stereo, but your record player is just mono. So bridge the RH and LH channels together i.e. RH+ and RH-, LH+and LH- and then join the 2 wires from these bridged connections onto the volume control outer tags.

Re: Triang Children's Record Player
Okay, how should I go about bridging them? Also, by the volume control outer tags, you mean the left and right connectors where the volume control wheel is right?

Warning/Note.......Do not solder direct to the cartridge pins, you will have to use suitable push on connectors....Note also....Do not fit connectors to the cartridge pins and solder to the connectors....Heat will damage the cartridge. In other words no soldering iron near the cartridge. Post crossed with Edwards. Lawrence. |

Re: Triang Children's Record Player
The schematic link just goes to the same that you posted above it.
Also, what wire connectors should I go about buying? |

My appologies, the earlier schematic link appears to be double link post.

Re: Triang Children's Record Player
The pickup cartridge connections have already been explained so have the connections at the loudspeaker, the loudspeaker connections to the amplifier board are the two tags on the right hand side of the board shown here:

Re: Triang Children's Record Player
You need 4 tags to push onto the 4 pins at the back of the cartridge, but only when you've finished soldering.
If you are stuck for these, someone, probably me, can send you the insides from a D-type socket which are normally a good fit. Graham
