Default RAF Test Oscillator Type 4

Does anyone know what this oscillator was used for? It came in a box of bits and pieces from the last Radiophile auction with aerial coils for 20-45Mcs and 40-100 Mcs , missing part of the case. (Ref No 10S/16514).
Mike.
