I would imagine that originally the end of the rod would be bent over to be retained in the hole. It may have been straightened out and removed to assist in the replacement of the belt. Perhaps it needs bending back or did the end snap off on removal?

I’ve looked at the service manual (free on Hi-Fi Engine) and it is not awfully clear but I think this is the “pause” rod.

Someone with more experience of this particular machine may offer better advice.

Good luck!

Peter

Oh yes, welcome to the forum, this is a great place populated with some very talented and knowledgeable people and a few old g*ts like me who occasionally stick their oar in.

Is the rod the correct way round, the inverted L end should be in the pause stroke adjusting plate which is the plate on the left, and the offset end should fit into the position that's shown in the photo.

Lawrence.

Hi Clansman. As already said , the rod is the wrong way round.
I recently serviced one of these decks and found this information on how to reset the pause pull rod. See image:-

Hi David yes refitted other way round and working fine now. Looking at the drive belts they look pretty new so think whoever did this must have fitted the bar wrongly.

Thanks for all your help.

Probably had it apart and put it back together and forgot to fit the rod....then took the easy option.

The mechanics are more or less the same as its forerunner the TC-366 which had conventional heads, I used to service a lot of them back in the day.

Lawrence.

Whilst we are talking about the TC377 Lawrence I was just wondering if the reel turntables are the same on the TC366 as the TC377 other than the spool retainers? I have a 366-4 and a scrap 377 and would like to swop the tables over so I would have the benefit of “twist and lock” rather than the old rubber “stoppers”. Is this feasible do you think? Many thanks,
Peter.

It should be easy to find out if you have both machines for comparison, I've never tried to find out myself.

Lawrence.

I have a spare strip of bright trim for mine, and I actually saw it recently. If anyone needs a bit of trim I will try my best to see it again
