N1700 service tips
These notes are from Philips Service Link
54: November 1977 N1700 Operating the equipment IT SHOULD BE STRESSED THAT THE REWIND-KEY MUST NOT BE OPERATED WITH SWITCH SK202 WEDGED IN THE FORWARD TRANSPORT MODE. The reason for this is that, if during adjustments to the servo circuitry switch SK202 is ‘wedged’ into the Play mode with one of the wedges provided (or any other suitable implement) the Tape-Spool drive motor is powered in the Forward direction. Should the Rewind-key now be operated, the lower spool will be driven from the capstan via the idler wheel, and the tape will be stretched tightly around the Video-head, causing serious tape damage and clogging of the heads, as well as the possibility of actual tape breakage. 57: May 1978 N1700 Improved operation of the automatic stop An improvement in the operation of the automatic stop can be achieved by the following changes on panel 11 (diagram C in the Service Manual):- (i) Resistor R123 is deleted. (ii) Resistor R135 reduced in value to 100kOhms (iii) Make up a series combination consisting of a diode type BAW62 (code number 130 37123) and a 220kOhm resistor (code number 110 63169), the resistor being connected to the anode of the diode. Mount this assembly in a suitable insulating sleeve to the print side of panel 11, with the diode cathode joined to junction R124/C116, and the free end of the resistor to the +11 Volt supply (a convenient point is the positive terminal of D103. Hope this is useful Graham
