Default Champion 860 that intermittently squeals

Every so often this happens, when it is good and hot. I can't quench it by turning the volume to zero, I must switch off.
There are differences from standard. There is a 12V transformer for the heaters, a diode for the HT rectification (because I baulk at the price of a 12X4). The detector & o/p is a Mazda 30PL1. The unwanted squealing habit started well after the set was revived and modified.
