Default Stewart Warner radio

Just had to share this lovely little radio with you , It is a recent purchase from Ebay ,and looked in a sorry state originally painted white It took about six hours of stripping to remove the paint , a good polish brought the Bakelite to the finish you see.
Replacing all the leaky capacitors had it working again and very good it is too! on it's built in aerial. Mick.

Nobody makes anything nearly as stylish nowadays. What a looker! Scrubbed up extremely well. A good job well done!

Paul

Certainly!

Can't believe I've had the set since late 2005, but can't remember where I got it from... Must have been the NVCF, might even have been the Newark antiques fair.

Regards,
Lloyd.

EDIT: Just discovered it came from the NVCF when it was at the Birmingham motorcycle museum!

Great job, reminds me of a scruffy silver spayed phone I picked up for next to nothing at a car boot, the black Bakelite was like new under the paint. I've often wondered if the paint had actually protected the Bakelite finish over the years.

IIRC, the radio is known as the Stewart-Warner "Pal". Built around 1947, five valve AC/DC superhet, for 115volt mains.
Stewart-Warner was in the radio and consumer electronic business for about 30 years, ending in 1956. They remained in business, building industrial equipment, instrumentation and other related goods.

And, they aren't very common over here either. A really nice find and nice restoration!
