Default Graves S-3

hello all, I have found some pics of a Graves S-3 on the forum (dated 2012). I have a chassis from a member here, it has later valves HLS 2off and LP2
before the photos fade away and the circuit diagram get lost I will try to put it together, any information welcome !

HLS? Is that a typo for HL2?

Can't find an HLS listed anywhere.....

Interesting, I have a Graves set with a similar looking chassis, my cabinet is totally different though, and I’ve never found any service data for it! I’ll try and find a picture of it..

Regards
Lloyd

Edit; found a pic! Sorry it’s fuzzy, it’s cut out of a bigger shot.

hello all, thanks for the reply's same as you Lloyd, I can find no information on this chassis, but I have a circuit diagram made by the
previous owner and a map of the under chassis I think I can work it
out.. the valves and interstage transformer are good ,,the coil pack
had a wire off but all good now The lemco .001mf 1500volt are not good and one has Brocken lead out, the only 1nf caps I have are RS172-7766 I think these are suppression
types can I use them ?

thanks dave

hello all I have re assembled most of this chassis, I have been looking
at this and other 3 valve circuits all looks ok , there are 2 chokes in this
chassis one is in the anode feed 40mh /140r with a resistor the other is wired via
a switch, to the coil pack I was hopping to repair it ,but is to damaged
its go at least 6 loose ends

wire single strand cloth covered
wire .005" 1/4" wide 1" od wave wound
any educated guesses as to what to replace it with

thanks dave

Can you post a picture of the circuit diagram you have identifying where the coil is connected and the function of the switch. We need to know if it forms part of the tuned circuit.

The original offer shows a few extra pictures https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...d.php?t=153064 including the switch.

It appears the RF coil is only in circuit on LW and connects Coil pin 5 to the aerial. We will need the coil arrangement before we can say what it does but MW should work without it.

the best I can do re coil arrangement is post some pics , the top part
of the coil pack looks similar to a Repanco DRR2 . if so. then pin5 goes to
the long wave (I think). reading, f j camm ,chokes are used in the LW to
prevent MW breaking through possibly that was what it was ?

thanks for the help, dave

I think we go with F J Camm then as it would take me a while to get my head around those coils. I would patch up what you have as best as you can by joining up the broken bits and wire it back in as it will be non-critical. You could spend many hours trying to wave wind by hand but it might not work much better.

thank you (,yes a lot seems to go on in the coil pack) my thoughts are to continue with the build, snip the wire where it exits the top of the chassis. try to get going on MW. and experiment with long wave (I have some chokes from norman reaburn,, so will see how it goes

thank all dave

Hello all, I patched the choke, as best I can, found all the ends, joined
them ,insulated with nail varnish .had to make cheeks to hold it in position. was 1.62mh went up 1.8mh when pushed together and coated with shellac .. well it looks ok I have a RS transformer that should work to get to a small 8ohm speaker, will try to get a long wire up at the week end.
Power supply GB-4.5v no problem. 2volt lead acid ok ,, I have a 90 volt at 30ma battery eliminator will that work for HT

thanks dave
