Hammond clock power cord replacement help needed - UK Vintage Radio Repair and Restoration Discussion Forum

Hello all,
I won a very nice large square Hammond clock in an auction.
The power cord has been cut due to fraying and possibly aluminum wires and i'd like to place it.
I would greatly appreciate the help in removing the SET knob properly.

First, I would connect a power cord to the cut end to see if the clock runs and keeps time.
It's kind of hard to see if there's enough room to get a needle-nose pliers under the set knob to remove it. It probably has a right hand thread, so turning it counter clockwise, while holding the shaft, if it could be held with the pliers. Other than that, it's anyone one's guess.
Hammond clocks didn't survive like some of the others, so they're a bit rare.

Hi Mandrex,

In the case of my Hammond clock, the setting knob was simply a (tight) push fit and I removed it by placing a small piece of thin plywood over the cover, to spread the load, and then used a knife to lever the knob from the spindle. There was certainly no screw thread but your mileage may vary.

The small needle nose and the left twist; with some authority, off with the knob!
Investigation of the cord revealed nice copper wiring but wrapped in two layers of fabric... hence the fire hazard.
Located a replacement cord but not yet tested....
