Default BVWS Bulletin, Spring 2013 - Errata !

The Bulletin seems to be hitting everyone's door step now, so there should be no problems with membership cards etc.

Just a note for those who are eagle eyed and spotted the mistake on the Capacitor Advert:

Price band A is £25.50 (inc postage)

Price band B is £29.00 (inc postage)

Also; the EDSAC appeal is for the following:

EDSAC (Electronic Delay Storage Automatic Calculator) Appeal for Valves etc.

The National Museum of Computing based at Bletchley Park are seeking the help of BVWS members to source needed valves and components to enable them to rebuild the EDSAC Computer originally designed and used at Cambridge University in 1949 as a fully authentic working replica.

Valves:
EF54 x 100 EA50 x 200 EB34 x 300 EF50 x 20 12E1 (CV345) x 10 KT61 x 10
ECR60 (VCR97 - CV1097) 6” Cathode Ray tubes as used in wartime indicator units x 10

Valve Holders:
B9G sockets – for EF50 etc. x 1,200 (New or good used examples) They will clean up any used versions.
IO sockets – Octal (1.125” diameter) x 1,110 (New or good used examples)
EA50 top clip x 650 (New or good used examples)
B12B sockets for VCR97 CRT’s x 10 (New or good used examples)

Other items:
4 uF block capacitors
2uF block capacitors x 80

If you can help with any of the above, please bring them along to any BVWS event and give them to myself or other Committee members and we will get them to Bletchley Park. Alternatively why not take a trip out to Bletchley and hand them in on site.
See www.edsac.org for full details of the project.

If you have any of these items and can spare them, you can bring them to Harpenden and let me have them to get to Bletchley Park.

Many Thanks,

Mike...

Mike,

How many 4uF block capacitors, and what voltage rating should they and the 2uF ones be?

Thank you, Mike, for beating me to the keyboard with answers to the two questions that was intending to ask - capacitor price bands and EDSAC valve types. On the latter I was a little concerned that they might end up being swamped with loads of unsuitable valves. Now I know what is being sought, I'll see whether I have anything of use.

Thanks, Mike.

Nice to have the ad actually as part of the magazine this time, as it's far less likely to get lost. I miss the fun, old-style of the former advert, but the new one is more useful.

Would it be possible to scan it and attach it to this thread too, for easy reference when online?

Nick.

It is a members benefit so posting here (where non-members can see it too) could cause confusion. I'll wait for Mike to comment.

That's a fair point. On the other hand, I suppose it might tempt non-members to do the decent thing...

I can do most of those types of valve from the museum stock, and can work on the other items.

I will contact the project again.....

Cheers
Sean

I have a good stock (some 30 or so) of the valves they need for edsac.

In fact, some of my stock came from another museum, with the request that I try to make items available to other museums or similar organisations, so it is an appropriate home for them.
