A pair of them on a springy headband could be used to degauss and rejuvenate a listeners ears!
Anyone got the phone number of the patent office? David

For some reason that reminds me of the late great Fred Wedlock "Handier Household Help"

Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
There is a hint of fact there, re writable optical disks use a magnetic field plus a laser to write bits by heating a weeny bit (pun intended). Get it right and you have a completely blank disk, zero (or is that infinity) signal to noise ratio.

Seeing as you are such a nice congregation of people, I thought I'd share my favourite audio tweak with you all: Byebee Quantum Purifier
You can thank me later! |

Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
Bybee quantum purifiers are notorious in sensible audio-land. Someone took one apart, and found a 0.05 ohm power resistor buried in some fibrous stuff

Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
I fitted a few once, for a customer who wanted to try them. He'd got them second-hand, at 'a good price'* from someone who'd already tried them. My customer was a bit underwhelmed and I seem to recall he took them out again.
Cheers, GJ *I think this meant he reckoned he could sell them on for roughly what he paid for them if he couldn't hear an improvement.

Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
Looking on the Bybee website, they can supply you with a bit of wood, felt covered base too, which:- 'affects the polarity of all electrons and protons within it’s magnetic field, affecting their oscillation by making them more aligned with each other. This reaction creates an affect the makes the transfer or sharing of electrons more streamline and efficient. The results are a stunningly enhanced purity and energy of the signal.'
10th item down :- https://www.bybeetech.com/products/#treatment-for-rooms-power-and-components My, what a clever bit of wood you are, to know the difference between what I want to hear, and what I don't. No recharging, no updates ... no cables either. Staggering. Mark

Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
Affect rather than effect?
"Benefits Even the best high-definition television or any kind of imaging monitor will display better contrast, visual detail and color fidelity. In audio systems, bass frequencies are faster and more impactful, and high frequencies become more extended, more open and natural, without edginess. The critical midrange sounds more musical, more liquid and less “electronic.” The overall presentation of imaging and soundstaging becomes both more precise and more enveloping." The whole of that page is at a whole different level of snake oil. The term snake oil is simply too weak a term for all that nonsense. Not quite at the superb enhancement devices that Peter Belt sold, rest his wonderful bizarre soul. Who can forget his wonderfully named four legged stance device? Or his morphic film. Craig |

Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
Those Bybee quantum purifiers have an equivalent family that are supposed to improve the fuel economy and speed of cars.
I once did a tear down on one called a magic chip and found a series of stacked square sections of filter mesh encapsulated into it to try and fool anyone who shoved it into an X-ray machine. |

Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
The grammar puts a smile on ones wizened fizog, and the cost of the HiFi accessories as 'linked' on these very pages makes me realise the true value of Brasso, cotton buds, a cloth and some time.
Cleaning mains plug-pins, connectors etc has been the biggest improvement in years for my humble system, naturally cleaning in the direction of the signal. Not wanting to casting aspersions, I do wonder what effect placing the Bybee bit of wood onto you chair would have on sound quality. Felt side up first, or down? Comfort levels will have an effect on listener enjoyment, should you choose to read aloud Why, it could turn a field mouse into a town crier(!) Mark

Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
I'd have to search to find it, but someone on vintage-radio had an RF demodulation problem in his audio system - some radio station or other. Turned out to be heavy tarnish on one of his phono connectors acting as a rectifying diode. After he cleaned it with brasso etc everything was fine and dandy.
It makes you wonder if the supposed improvement of buying a new cable is more to do with the connectors being clean. Craig |

Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
Consumer grade audio connectors, whether phono, DIN or jack, are often of such poor quality that I suspect the mere act of unmating and remaking the connection can result in an audible improvement.
