When did G8 licenced Amateurs get full HF rights?
Hi all,
Can anyone tell me the year that the old Class B licenced Radio Amateurs were granted full Class A ( as it was then ) priveliges? Can't seem to find the answer anywhere. Many thanks Aub G4KQL

Subtle difference between "rights" and "privileges"
For those of us who took that long train ride to Hull, the change came too late. B

July 2003
Effective July 25th, the former “Amateur Licence A” and “Amateur Licence B” were reclassified as “Full” licences with full HF privileges. The former “Intermediate Licence A” and “Intermediate Licence B” were reclassified as “Intermediate” licences with limited HF privileges. |

Thanks Tanuki. Seems longer ago than that. I must be getting old 🙂
Cheers

Re: When did G8 licenced Amateurs get full HF rights?
What triggered the change was the ending of maritime morse coverage. While that operated, amateurs using the shared bands could be requested, in morse, to close down by the maritime stations. As these were not necessarily equipped for speech transmission, this meant the amateurs had to be able to read morse to understand such a request, and at a speed that the maritime operator could get down to.
I think NZ was the first to remove the amateur morse requirement, once it ceased to be an ITU requirement. David
