Multiplay / duoplay / off. From memory duoplay is both tracks played together, multiplay is for bouncing recordings from one track to the other.

I have this very machine, sadly it succumbed to goo a long time ago so memory may be rusty.

In straight stereo mode this machine is capable of suprisingly high performance. Also known as Philips N4407.

Duoplay allows you to monitor what is recorded on one track as you record on the second. For example, if music making, you would lay down a guitar part on 1-4 and then rewind, switch to 3-2, and as you record your vocal you can hear the guitar track allowing you to keep in sync.

Multiplay is very similar, only this time along with your hypothetical vocal, the guitar track is mixed in and re-recorded onto 3-2. Then you can tape over 1-4 with yet more vocal or instrumentation.

I have this model and the manual somewhere.

Remember though that as this is a domestic machine you can only duo-play and multi-play a limited number of times since the quality degrades (loss of treble).
You can still obtain some good results though.
