Jubilee "Compact" Telephone.
After having brought and refurbished a bakelite telephone, I looked at other hat I thought to berate telephones. (What? )
I have since brought two Trimphones and now just brought a Jubilee Compact Telephone to refurbish. I have just (over two nights) stripped the bell set, phone and handset. It came with a non curly blue cord between the bell and phone and a curly blue handset cord. I originally found that the line had been cut at the bell set so all terminals are there and grommets fitted but the wire is cleanly cut. The next night I stripped the phone and found the cable again cut. Tonight I took the handset cover off and again the cord's been cut. My first question is what colour do I need to get as I have read other posts and it said they were looking for stone, and I found another website that advises how to convert and it said none of the compacts had a body coloured cord. No more questions at present and thanks in advance. |

Re: Jubilee "Compact" Telephone.
According to ' Installation & Maintenance Guide Notes for Field Staff - Compact Telephone Jubilee Version' - Table 1 on page 18 has the cords described as -
Handset Cord - Cord Inst 4/123AX Grey 200mm Instrument Cord - Cord Inst 6/63AX Grey 700mm Both 'extensible' cords i.e. curly ones ! Hope that helps Ian Last edited by Mike Phelan; 6th Nov 2014 at 10:39 am. Reason: Removed unnecessary quote. |

Re: Jubilee "Compact" Telephone.
I used a six-way curly cord intended for alarm systems as an acceptable substitute for 6/63AX. Unfortunately, the supplier from which I acquired it no longer seems to be available and I can't track down an example for sale at present. I don't know whether anyone else can help with this.

Re: Jubilee "Compact" Telephone.
I recall the 'Jubilee' was a limited edition of the phone in dark (Royal?) blue and did have matching blue cords. I also recall the PO Telecoms Journal had a feature on it at the time. Try blue 746 cords, they may not be exact colour replacements but should be near enough given the colour of the intrument may well have changed slightly anyway.

Re: Jubilee "Compact" Telephone.
Thank you for that.
I can strip and crimp, wires so a normal curly cord will be OK. I have seen blue curly cords for sale. Are the colours of the 6 wire ones, shown in the link, of the same colours to match the guides to make these phones usable on modern lines? |

Re: Jubilee "Compact" Telephone.
The one I bought came complete with BT-compatible square grommets and spade terminals. Unfortunately, I had to swap cable colours a bit as the wires were of varying lengths and one or two of the correctly-coloured ones were too short. Also the colour wan't quite the same as the "stone" ones.
If, however, you are happy to make up your own cables, that simplifies matters. By the way, my Jubilee has both cords in "stone". Were some issued this way and some with colour-matched cords?

Re: Jubilee "Compact" Telephone.
Hi,
My Jubilee phone and Bellset also have stone coloured cords, I don't think that I have ever seen any with Blue handset or line cords. If you haven't looked there already the wiring instructions for the "new" (well it was in 1981 ) Plug and socket system are here Regards Andrew |

Re: Jubilee "Compact" Telephone.
Yes thank you for these messages.
I am watching a "stone" coloured handset cord. The strange thing with my phone, was I orginal thought the cut wires in the bell set was the line in, then on stripping realised they might be line in and definitely line out to phone. Then phone end was cut, and basically the handset cord has the wires with not terminals tucked under the screws, and do not match the colours in the handset, I do not know why this has been done. I have the conversion from 1981 stored on my iPad, as used that on the Bakelite phone and have yet to look into the trimphones I have to convert, but that's a whole new saga. |

Re: Jubilee "Compact" Telephone.
Hi,
From my 1977 Jubilee Year Compact Telephone brochure,- the colours are described as: Telephone and optional shelf are in Balmoral Blue. The Bell unit is in Dove White, and all spiral cords in Heron Grey. There are 2 versions of the dial centre emblem, 1 featuring the English crown for all areas except Scotland, where the second version featuring the Scottish crown was available. Kind regards Dave |

Re: Jubilee "Compact" Telephone.
I have never ever seen one with a Scottish crown. I wonder how many were actually ever supplied?

Re: Jubilee "Compact" Telephone.
I have only seen the Scottish one on the Internet, in the write up about the Jubilee phone.

Hi Skrammd, something went wrong with using your Profile Album as it contains no photos.
To add photos to your reply on the thread, you use 'Go Advanced' (as opposed to 'Post Quick Reply') and use the 'Attach Files' facility for adding upto 5 files. Regards - Mike |

Re: Jubilee "Compact" Telephone.
The album was awaiting approval. I've approved it now so you should be able to see the pictures.
It's always better to post pictures in the thread they relate to though.

Re: Jubilee "Compact" Telephone.
I can not seem to add. I am using my iPad, and it says attach file, but there is a line through it, so guess I need to be on the pc for that option.
