Default Ford radio unlock code?

Hello good morning!

I am Jesus from Seville (Spain) and I am passionate about old radio cassettes, but now I am restoring a 1989 Ford Orion and I don't have the original FORD radio code. Would you be so kind as to help me?

It is a radio FORD SOUND 2000:

FD 2007 J 0024560

89AB-18K876-AB
0174165
MADE IN BRAZIL

Thank you very much in advance!

Try this there is a free service and you need the serial no. If you are unsuccessful too many times leave the radio powered on for about an hour you should be able to try again.

From memory, Ford radios allow a maximum of 10 wrong attempts, after which the radio is locked out permanently.

I was advised to wrap my ford radio in a tea towel, put it in a plastic bag and then into the freezer. Leave it there for 24 hours and then let it just to room temperature slowly. This erases all codes and the radio will work 'code free"

I have to say that I was told about this supposed unlock method more than 25 years ago and it didn't work then. Maybe the theory behind it was that semiconductors conductivity and memory capability changes with decreasing temperature, but as FixitNow says all radios would forget their codes, including those in use in places like Alaska, Canada, and Northern Scandinavia, if this method worked.

I've first-hand experience of EEPROM not writing correctly at extreme low temperatures (though that might have been due to capacitors), but it certainly held properly-written data fine down to -40.

I think the freezer story is a bit of an urban myth.

We test equipment with flash, eeprom etc memory down to -40C both storage and start-up/operation. Never had issues.

Unless someone put a deliberate temp sensor in as a reset device, but that's too much trouble.

Radios in the freezer. That one still tickles me. By the way, can you re-gas my plasma tv? From memory you can blank the nvm. I think they are the 24c series.
Pony prog will do it.

The only thing other than food to put in a freezer is hardrives that have failed and that is not guaranteed.

I suspect it started off as one of those "let's see how daft people are" kind of things. A bit like telling people to immerse it in a bucket of water or microwave it at full power for five minutes.

I think we're all agreed that freezing is not an option, but does anyone have more sensible advice for the OP?

Is there any forums for this sort of thing or any possible help from a Ford main dealer?

The "89" in the code suggests version release in 1989 (certainly nowhere near 2000!), so Ford dealers might just smile thinly if asked for any decoding advice 30 years on- but I guess there's no harm in trying. The well-known auction site offers lots of decoding services with varying charges (will generally be low for an old Ford-brand radio, though) and varying levels of convincing-ness.

They're not bad units, with good radio sensitivity and features, I had a couple in 3 successive Fords. (Though one suffered leakage of a loudspeaker coupling capacitor, eating through some fine tracks- not too bad a fix.)

Post #2 sounds a good first option.

Many of the cars were made in the Ford plant at Almussafes, Valencia, the car country of manufacture will tell you if yours was, which has a customer service department. Might be worth a try, you never know your luck

There are Ford Owners Club in Spain which at first glance show off RS2000's but someone there will I'm sure have come across radio code issues.

Looking at a similar request on the web, "Lost radio code for Ford Sound 2000", the owner used the services of dndservices.co.uk

The answer is out there.

Best of luck

Chris

A quick Google will show that there are various free applications that can be downloaded to produce an unlock code. As FixitNow says you just need the radio's serial number.
