Murphy type V510 TV.
I have discovered one of these clearing my loft.
Does anyone need it? |

Hello and welcome to the forums.
Are you offering this Free Of Charge (FOC)?

Re: Murphy type V510 TV.
Back seems to have had a patch repair to the area around the tube neck. Why? Burn Up?

Re: Murphy type V510 TV.
That patch isn't a repair it is original. Probably a modification because the previous model used a 90 degree tube and had a box in that position to accommodate the tube neck and dropper resistors. This set has a 110" tube so the box was done away with as it didn't need the extra depth.
I have an example of both models in my collection. easy to restore and usually good tubes. Murphy must have sold thousands I had many as a school kid in the 70's when they were being displaced by colour sets . Usually still working well . The rubber mask seems to go soggy with age on some sets the one on this looks fine. Keep it upright though as the seals on the oil filled transformer can leak and the oil will make a right mess and possibly cause the rubber mask to rot... Not particularly valuable as a fair few seen to have survived but a nice set to preserve. I hope it finds a good home! Rich. |

Re: Murphy type V510 TV.
The V410 had a 90 degree tube and cabinet was a few inches deeper. I wouldn't have thought Murphy would issue a cabinet with a patch but it was a long time ago so perhaps I am wrong.

This shows the back of the earlier V410, the box in the middle of the back was changed to the "patch " on the later set. Hopefully this clarifies what I was trying to say on my previous post. A slightly odd way of doing the alteration I agree... Rich. |

My first TV memories ! Grandparents had one of these on a castored TV table in the corner. Good memories of watching the football pools teleprinter whilst Grandad filled out his coupon.
