Re: Selena Vega 215
Hi, your set is identical to mine. All three switches latch on my set. Very good sets these. Batteries last very well. Anyone got a spare aerial for one? The one on my set is missing. Cheers, Malc.

Re: Selena Vega 215
Darren, of course you're absolutely right! This isn't an excuse but the 212 was the nearest of these that I had to hand and the right end of the fascia, where the '212' legend is written, was so dusty from storage that I never thought to check what it actually was.
I have since found my 215, a different animal in many ways, and all of its buttons latch down, which is rather more relevant to this thread! Sorry. (And I now realise that I have four of these sets, including the 215! Oh dear, it's worse than I thought)!

I have several B215 Selena radios which have three buttons and all of mine are in the same position as described in the Selena handbook below and all their buttons latch down. The earlier B212 had four buttons, with separate buttons for battery or mains operation and the light button doesn't latch down on those. The Soviet Office Mashpriborintorg name and/or logo appeared on Selena sets up until 1979 (on all B212s and early B215s) and then the name Tento until 1991. Between 1992-1993 'Made in Republic Belarus' appeared on the sets. Howard Last edited by howard; 15th Aug 2007 at 8:30 pm. |

Re: Selena Vega 215
With reference to post #21, I've now altered the button configuration so on/off latches ( as it did anyway ), AFC latches ( it didn't before ) and scale lamp doesn't latch ( it did before ).
Difficult to say for certain, but the way the buttons were configured appeared to be original. |

It is horribly confusing trying to establish when and where radios were built in the Soviet Union ! I have looked up my 1980 Vega Tento catalogue here and the B212 is indeed in it. I have two B215s with Mashpriborintorg logos so were built before 1979 and as the B210/B212s which still have several germanium transistors were definitely built before them I can only suggest that the B212s were in stock at TOE for a very long time. In the same catalogue are the Vega 402 and later Vega 404 and the former was originally introduced in 1971, nine years before that catalogue was printed. Howard |

I've just had a quick look inside my B212. The electrolytics all have a code which I assume is the manufacture date. This one has a variety including 1279, 0380, 0480 and 0580, implying that it was still a pile of components before May 1980 at the earliest. This fits in with it having the Tento name on it, but does nothing to clarify the relative production dates of the B212 and the B215. It seems illogical, but could they have overlapped for a couple of years or so? Tom |
