Metal clip retaining baffle in bakelite cabinet - UK Vintage Radio Repair and Restoration Discussion Forum

Hi all,

I want to remove the baffle but it is retained by a number of these steel clips. I strongly suspect the moulded posts will break as i try to ease them off. Any suggestions from those who have succeeded doing this please ?

A pair of needle-nosed pliers will enable you to bend the tabs beyond their elastic limit, so that the clips can be lifted off. As long as they're not too rusty, they can be reformed in order to refit them.

These nasty clips are called Spire Push-On Fixings and there was a detailed discussion recently on how to remove them in this thread.

It is interesting to note a second pillar and slot in the baffle, as if the designers expected these pillars to break when servicing

In the end, I could not flex the clips off as they appear to have been tempered like spring steel with a bluish hue. The plastic pegs sheared off but fortunately, the team at the Ekco cabinet molding department had the foresight to provide extra redundant pegs as John has noticed in the post above too. I remounted the baffle using the same clips on these pegs. (The thread on this Ekco A455 radio is here: https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...944#post800944).
