Default Schaub Lorenz 5001 help needed

I'm trying to fix a Schaub Lorenz 5001 music centre that has been badly messed around with.

I'm having more success than expected but I'm now struggling to figure out the operation of the tape mechanism.

I can see an LDR and a cog which operates two switches, but what exactly stops the tape at the end, rewinds it, stops it rewinding and skips to the next track, etc?

Thanks
David
