Default Re: Philips EL3542 tape recorder problem

Update on this tape recorder. Finally got round to working on it and replaced the Wima capacitor C2 - 0.1uF 400v as advised and that cured the background noise as originally described. I replaced a couple of resistors under the valves as also advised as a precautionary measure.

All working well with a decent volume. Many thanks to all who offered advice and helpful hints.
