Cassette player damage.
Hi all, could someone get me some advice. I recently bought a National Panasonic music centre, SG-2070L, but it was damaged in transit.
I've fixed some of it but could someone discribe how I remove the cassette player from the casing as the eject button had become dislodged inside. I would be grateful for any advice. Cheers. Last edited by Poppymarsh; 22nd Jun 2019 at 3:48 am. Reason: miss spelling |

Re: cassette player damage
It is often the case that the cassette door needs to be open in order for the mechanism to be released.

Re: Cassette player damage.
Hi Marsh you may need to un screw one or two screws under the lid , the lid may be in the way , there is usually a plastic bar restricting the opening of the lid , if you gently move this to on side ,the lid will open fully ,gaining access to the screws , then you need to remove the case ,take the record deck out , there may be screws that need removing under the deck , then remove the screws under the unit . Not sure about the actual model but this is usually the way to go , best of luck .Mick.

Re: Cassette player damage.
If it's any help, service info. for the SG=2070L is available from www.radiomuseum.org. A more complete link can be found in a thread about the same model in the vintage audio (record players. HiFi, etc.) section. There may be dismantling info. in the service manual, but Mick (vinrads) is no dubt correct in principle)

Re: Cassette player damage.
There is a small screw on the actual cassette "platform" beside the take up spindle. I spent hours with mine trying to find out why I couldn`t separate the top half from the bottom, and that`s why. Just a pointer to save you some time and swearing.............

If you still need help, let me know as I took one of these apart to fix the tape deck a couple of weeks ago and can tell you exactly what to do.

Re: Cassette player damage.
You are probably thinking (as I did) that the top of the cassette player lifts off but it doesn't (in addition to two screws that hold it to the cassette mechanism, it is held captive from underneath by screws and large washers). So you have to take the wooden case off as follows:
Remove the perspex top from the music centre (just lifts off) Take the platter and drive belt off the turntable Remove two nuts now revealed that hold the record player on Lift front of record player, unplug audio and power cables and put whole assembly to one side Push in tabs either side of cassette hatch and remove Remove two screws near the cassette drive hubs Remove all 5 screws from the underside of the music centre Remove 5 black screws from the rear panel Remove 2 brassed screws, one each side, hiding just below the two hinges Now you can lift the wooden case off and all will revealed! |

Re: Cassette player damage.
In my experience, most music centres involve a considerable amount of dismantling along the lines mentioned by 'Groovy1' in post # 10.

Re: Cassette player damage.
Didn't mean to put you off Actually I'm not sure exactly what the problem is you need to fix - if the eject button is rattling around inside, there may be other ways to get to it. Could you describe the problem in more detail or post a photo?
